Embracing Imperfection - Bedford Gallery

Yesterday, our class went on an exciting field trip to the Bedford Gallery in Walnut Creek. We divided into two groups, each guided by a knowledgeable worker from the gallery who expertly unraveled the intricacies of every piece on display. The artworks, diverse and uniquely creative, painted a vibrant tapestry of inspiration. This experience left me genuinely inspired as I journey through this JanTerm course, urging me to wholeheartedly embrace and cherish the artistry within me. I often catch myself striving for visual perfection in everything I do. However, the gallery visit was a revelation. I discovered that imperfection is not only acceptable but can be powerful. It's not about achieving flawless aesthetics; instead, it's about letting each person interpret the meaning in their own way.

  1. I unfortunately wasn't able to go on this tour which was really disappointing because I was looking forward to it. This post is making me want to go explore it for myself, especially after being in this class for so long, I feel like my urge to see art is more pronounced than ever. I love what you said in your last two sentences about imperfection because whether it's being a clean freak, having a good aesthetic, and maybe a touch of needing control, I feel like I get wound up in trying to achieve perfection throughout all aspects of my life.

  2. Lindsey!!! "imperfection is not only acceptable but can be powerful" = wow. Glad you gained so much from the museum. For me, I just walked away with clay fingers. I'm glad you got so much out of it.
